The hatchling weighed roughly 3 ounces (87 grams) at birth. It will take 30 years for the baby to reach a similar girth as its mother - a massive 564 pounds (256 kilograms). Galapagos tortoises are the longest-lived of all vertebrates, with average lifespans of more than a hundred years.
